Elizabeth Steinglass

 

Elizabeth Steinglass is a poet and educator. She is the author of Soccerverse: Poems about Soccer, a National Council of Teachers of English Notable Book of Poetry for 2019. Her poetry for children has been published widely in journals and anthologies. More recently Elizabeth completed a chapbook collection of poems for adults about the life and work of Abstract Expressionist painter Lee Krasner. On a daily basis Elizabeth works to use language, space, and image to explore identity, becoming, and belonging, and to say the unsaid and unsayable.  

Elizabeth has taught writing at Writopia, The City College of New York, and Harvard College. She has spoken at many schools and annual conferences, including the American Library Association, the Texas Library Association, and the National Council of Teachers of English. She also worked as an educational researcher at NYU School of Law where she co-authored articles about gender and legal education. In the field of education, her particular area of interest is educational practices designed to meet the needs of diverse populations of learners, including those with learning differences.    

Elizabeth was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lowell School for 9 years. During that time she served as chair of the board as well as chair of the finance and development committees. She was also a member of the search committee for Lowell’s current director. 

Elizabeth has an EdD from Harvard’s Graduate school of Education, an MA from Columbia’s Teacher’s College and an AB in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard College. She will begin work on an MFA in Poetry from the Warren Wilson College in North Carolina in June 2023. 

Elizabeth grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. She has lived in Washington, DC since 2001 with the exception of three years during which she and her family lived in Hong Kong. She and her husband David are the parents of three sons.
