Kareem Fahmy (Playwright) is a NYC-based playwright and director from Sherbrooke, Quebec. Along with Dodi & Diana, which premiered Off-Broadway, his plays American Fast (winner of the Woodward/Newman Award) and A Distinct Society have been produced nationwide. Other plays include Riparian States, Fountains of Youth, Pareidolia, The In-Between, and an adaptation of the acclaimed novel The Yacoubian Building. Commissions include: Audible, Artists Repertory Theatre, Colt Coeur, Ensemble Studio Theatre/Sloan Foundation, inaugural recipient of The Next Forever Commission from The Civilians and Princeton University. He’s received fellowships from Yaddo, MacDowell, Bogliasco Center, Sundance Theatre Lab, New York State Council for the Arts, and was named a Rising Leader of Color by Theatre Communications Group. Select Directing credits include: Cincinnati Playhouse, Writers Theatre, Pioneer Theatre Company, Contemporary American Theater Festival, Portland Stage, and Crossroads Theatre Company. Alumnus of the Stratford Festival Playwrights Retreat, Banff Centre Playwrights Lab, The Old Globe Classical Directing Fellowship, Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Phil Killian Directing Fellowship, and National Directors Fellowship.
