ABOUT MOSAIC THEATER COMPANY OF DC
Mosaic Theater Company’s mission is to produce bold, culturally diverse theater that illuminates critical issues, elevates fresh voices, and sparks connections among communities throughout our region and beyond. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Reginald L. Douglas and Managing Director Serge Seiden, Mosaic is a mission-driven theater focused on cross-cultural narratives, social justice, civic discourse, and community engagement currently renting space and performing at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Since the beginning of Douglas’ tenure in 2022, Mosaic has had a sustained period of profound growth with record years of fundraising and consistent audience development and growth year to year, as evidenced by four of the company’s highest grossing productions happening during this period. In 2025, two of our prior productions went on to celebrated Off-Broadway runs, including OUT OF CHARACTER (which we co-produced the second, revised production of with Theater J) and MEXODUS (which we developed and then co-produced the world premiere of with Baltimore Center Stage). The success of these productions is a testament to Mosaic’s impactful new play development work, high-quality artistic programming, and commitment to partnerships that make an impact. In addition, we have significantly expanded our education and engagement programming and developed new strategies to link our productions, new play development, and education and engagement programming. For example, our Intergenerational Matinee program brings students and seniors together to see and discuss our plays and continues to grow in breadth, and in 2024, we launched our Community-Engaged Theater Fund, which connects artists and audiences to develop new plays. In 2025, we received the Icon of Equality Award from the Equality Chamber of Commerce in recognition of our leadership in supporting and welcoming LGBTQ+ artists and audiences.
Since 2014, we have reached over 160,000 people, including over 7,000 students across all eight DC wards. We have hosted 60+ Reflections Series events open to DC community members just since 2022. We have commissioned or developed over 50 plays and musicals. We have received seven Helen Hayes Awards, including three in 2025. Our artistic work and innovative approach to community engagement have been featured by The Washington Post, Washingtonian, CBS, NBC, Washington Blade, WAMU, Broadway World, DC Theater Arts, American Theatre Magazine, and more. Mosaic operates with a balanced operating budget of nearly $3 million, a full-time staff of 13 people, and a dedicated 28-member Board of Directors. As Mosaic launches its twelfth season, the company is at an exciting moment of growth rooted in organizational stability, tangible care for artists and staff, and inspiring vision.
