DODI & DIANA

By Kareem Fahmy

DIRECTED BY Reginald L. Douglas

September 4-OCTOBER 5, 2025

While commemorating the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s and Dodi Fayed’s tragic deaths, Egyptian actress Samira and her financier husband, Jason, are forced to reckon with their own complicated relationship and how their fate may already be written in the stars. A taut and thrilling new play by award-winning playwright Kareem Fahmy, Dodi & Diana blends astrology with the allure of the royals to ask thought-provoking questions about identity, sexuality, and the power of finding your own freedom.

Dodi & Diana is supported by Partners Circle Champions Dr. Bill & Evelyn Braithwaite, Debbie Carliner & Bob Remes, Activists Meg & John Hauge, Julie Rios and Advocates Virginia Q. Anthony and Susan & Daniel Mareck.

PRESS

“A beguiling amalgam of astrology and erotica verité. Samira [is] played with steely-eyed coquetry by Dina Soltan. Jason [is] played with libidinous charm by impressively fit Jake Loewenthal. Reginald L. Douglas’ direction is both sublimely sensitive and spectacularly theatrical. In between the dozen scenes — in which we learn how they met, courted, and wed then watch their marriage nearly become undone — their lavish hotel room (magnificently designed by Shartoya R. Jn. Baptiste) becomes a stunning sound and light show (designed, respectively, by navi and Sage Green).

The veracity and chemistry between Soltan and Loewenthal are off the charts. Near the end, there is a marriage-meltdown scene between Samira and Jason that is so raw and unnerving that one dares not breathe.” -DC Theater Arts

“Bold, raw, and unapologetically real. From career vs. family to faith, feminism, and identity—this play dives straight into the struggles of a generation.” -H Street Sweet H Street

“The cast, crew and creative team do a terrific job of keeping the audience entertained. There is always something to look at, wonder about, and engage with as you follow the playful, fraught and wild moments in the life of this married couple.” -MD Theatre Guide

“A sexy portrait of a marriage! Soltan and Loewenthal fluently convey the intimacy shared by a loving couple alone and comfortable in their space. Loewenthal laces his upbeat, lowkey cocky portrayal with a sense of the guy’s perpetually wounded pride. Soltan convinces as a dedicated and hungry artist.” -Metro Weekly

“Sleek! Stylish! Reginald L. Douglas delivers his usual top-notch magic.” -Washington City Paper
